Abstract

In modern workplace environments, especially in the United States where workplace diversity, accelerated technological change, and complex interpersonal dynamics are driving adaptive leadership skills, emotional intelligence (EI) is increasingly being regarded as a critical element that dictates performance in leadership in the contemporary organizational environment. This paper explores the correlation between emotional intelligence and leadership performance, with a particular focus to managerial performance. To conduct the research, a quantitative research design was utilized and primary data gathered through use of a structured questionnaire based on the validated EI and Leadership assessment scales. To test the strength and significance of relationships among variables were provided statistical tests such as Pearson correlation tests and multiple regression tests. The results indicate that there is a strong positive relationship between emotional intelligence and leadership effectiveness indicating that managers with high EI has better performance outcomes. Self-awareness, empathy, and social skills were listed among the key dimensions that are significant predictors of an effective leader. Through the results, it can be argued that emotional intelligence can not only improve managerial decision-making and team engagement but also has an overall positive impact on the organization. In this study, the significance of integrating EI-based training and evaluation systems into leadership development initiatives at U.S. organizations is highlighted. The findings add to the growing literature on emotional intelligence by offering empirical support of the effect of emotional intelligence on the leadership performance in the contemporary organizational environment.
